A Toast: To Doing Different Things.

My husband and I work from home. Everything we do is in some way, shape, or form, about computers. Seriously, I may work 15 hours a day on my computer, and then my "free" time is/was on the computer too. I got a bit burnt out from all of that, and decided to do other things. Nothing huge like theater or amusement parks or anything, just simple things like watching TV (Sounds funny, but our TV is on so infrequently I rarely even know the headlining news.), watching movies we wouldn't normally watch or try, taking our dogs for a walk together rather than letting them out in the fenced in backyard, sitting out by our firepit... It's funny how simple stupid little things can refresh you.

At last my stomach is managable. It's been about ten days or so, and my stomach is doing pretty good. I've come to the conclusion that stress more than anything was hurting my stomach. Though there are some foods I have to be careful with. But when I'm not feeling all anxious and stressed my stomach can handle just about anything. Just about. It isn't its old self by any means, but it's 1000% better than it's been in a long time. I can even have chocolate again!!!

Maybe that's what I needed... a type of vacation. When you're work is your home it's hard to separate down time from work time, and since my work is on the computer and all/a lot of my free time was on the computer I lost even further how to separate the two.


That's one thing that's well-known about IBS. Once you get it stabilized and keep it stabilized for a week or two, it will tend to STAY stabilized even if you eat a bit of food that would have bothered you before. But there will probably always be just a few foods that you can NEVER eat without consequences. Or perhaps you can only ever eat them in tiny amounts with the right foods. I can eat a TINY bit of peanut butter if my stomach is very stable, but no more, and it always has to be with something else...bread, for example. Or better yet, toast. (makes a difference, somehow) And weirdly, perhaps...pineapple makes me quite sick, specially the fresh stuff. Must be all the enzymes.

A lot of my flist does a lot of their work at home, as most of them are writers/artists. I do too, actually...Etsy is online, of course. My stomach was HORRIBLE for December and much of January because I was SO stressed out...my stomach told me so even before I properly realized it. My stomach would calm right down (not perfectly, but still) if I just put on some Enya. Seriously. Lose the tension and the guts unclench, solving the worst of the pain, most of the time. :)
Yeah, I've come to realize that stress is what really made my problem worse. I have tried some food lately that normally would mess me up -- I wanted to see if it would still give me a bad reaction, or if it was the stress causing most of the problems. At first I had no problems, but if I did it for more than a few days my stomach started to act up, though in a completely different way than the stress. lol The stress triggers the IBS-D -- The most painful. Otherwise it's IBS-C with bloating and mild but irritating stomach aches. For the most part this is what I've noticed. :)

I haven't de-stressed to music in a long time. I don't know why I stopped. I need to get back to it. I also like to listen to Nature Sounds like mild thunderstorms, falling rain, waterfalls... Things like that for de-stressing.
